Sissinghurst Castle Gardens
National Trust’s Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, a 10-minute drive from us at The West House, is said to be the epitome of the English Garden.
It’s a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year but if you’re a gardening enthusiast, there’s no better time to visit than late Spring/early Summer to catch Vita Sackville-West’s joyful planting in all its glory.
In the Autumn and Winter months, there’s still lots to take in, including panoramic views of the formal garden, working farm and 450-acre wider estate from Vita’s Writing Room at the very top of the tower and the Library nicknamed ‘The Big Room’. This atmospheric space was originally used for entertaining and is now home to exhibitions throughout the year.
A drink at one of Graham’s favourite local pubs The Three Chimney’s en route back to The West House makes a lovely day of it.
